After profiling CasaSito (which is also the name of a small, powerful engine, which the organization would like to emulate the effects of with its work) on the TEFL Logue and getting in touch with Alice, one of the founders, I have received their March 2007 CasaSito Brief.

At least one volunteer is needed to teach a one-hour English class two or three times a week, starting in May and continuing for at least three months. The students will be adults, and their level is beginner to intermediate. CasaSito is also looking for a German teacher to teach one class per week, staring in June and also continuing for at least three months.

Last year, between September and December (the winter holiday period) CasaSito was able to offer English and art classes to children between the ages of 8 and 15; they hope to be able to find volunteers to make this possible again this year.

They also report that EBS Daycare sent 131 children to schools and also assists 174 children in the area – to find out more about their work and volunteer program, visit the EBS website.

Finally, there is information on Association Santiaguito, a handicraft center which provides the venue for a cultural tour as well as for workshops and courses. Volunteers are needed in connection with this project: to guide and promote the tour and to teach English, sewing and design classes.

One other additional though not new innovation at CasaSito is the volunteers’ house, where volunteers pay a small fee to stay with other volunteers in a typical living style. As CasaSito does not charge its volunteers a participation fee, this is one small way funds can be contributed and it also makes volunteering a possibility for interested people who can’t afford the fees charged by many volunteer placement organizations.

If you’re interested in any of these opportunities, check out the CasaSito site itself (you can see the March Brief here) and then get in touch with the organization itself at casasito at yahoo dot com.
